Jason Briggs teaches part-time at Lipscomb University in Nashville while maintaining a studio in Watertown, TN. He earned his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1995 and his MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1999. After a summer at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT, he spent 3 years serving as Artist in Residence at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, TN. Briggs was recently invited as a visiting artist to The Taiwan National University of Art in Taipei and was recognized in 2008 as an emerging artist by NCECA, the National Council on Education of the Ceramic Arts. The sensual ceramic forms he creates are evidence of his tactile connection to his medium. These “foreign yet familiar” objects have been created out of a desire to push, poke, squeeze, stroke, and caress the clay. Briggs hopes the inherent mystery and intrigue of his sculptures will have the viewer asking themselves, ‘What if I could touch it?’ |
